Perhaps not as glorious as January, but still, February has been an excellent month for the gaming world, as well as our little site. Let’s look at some of the new releases from the month:

Releases:

This month we’ve seen some interesting new IPs come out of the wood works. The long awaited PS3 exclusive “Heavy Rain” brings adventure gaming to the next generation of consoles. “The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom” for the Xbox 360 acts as this months “must get” indie game, with puzzle platforming to rival that of Jonathan Blow’s “Braid.” “Star Trek Online” adds another frontier to MMORPG gallery. And “Bioshock 2″ (a much talked about game on the site) brings us back to Rapture for another adventure; this time as a Big Daddy.

So it’s been another month that will be favorably looked upon throughout history, if history judges the past solely on monthly video game releases.

So what were we doing?:

This month Rob discussed his experiences with “Mass Effect 2” and “Bioshock 2.” Speaking of “Bioshock 2,” Skizz also brings up his play through of the game and also talks about “WET.”

Chad plays some more of The People’s Games, this time featuring: “depict1,” “Cosmosa,”"Starfeld,” “Balloon in the Wasteland,” “Vatn Squid,” and “Nuclear Baby.” He also reviews “Vanitas” and “Noby Noby Boy” for the iPhone and retrospectively looks at “Feel the Magic: XY/XX.”

And Tom plays for us another Battle Tunes.

I wrote a review for The World Ends With You a while back, and as you know, I loved it. One of my favorite parts about this game is how the music quickly goes from grating, offensive, and against the norm, to catchy, fun, and empowering. Here’s Shibuya, one of the most common tracks in the game. Enjoy! This particular track has an almost Jet Set Radio feel to it. Very scratchy, very awesome.

Just found this while browsing the interwebs. Doctor Octorok has just released an amazing Christmas album! His site is getting hammered right now, so we here at 72 decided (along with just about half the internet) to lend a hand and throw a mirror up here. Give this stuff a listen. Its made for the Christmas Nerd in you. 8-Bit Jesus is a classic NES-style take on the Christmas carols of old, and by God do they rock! Hit his site up and give him a comment or two!

Again, total thanks to Doctor Octorok for this amazing set!

Such a classic game. Everything about it, from the music, to the combat,
to the puzzles, to the nostalgic charm. Everything about The Legend of
Zelda: Link’s Awakening is perfectly classic in the best way. It plays
like a classic Zelda game through and through. In case you don’t know
how that feels, here is the gameplay in a paragraph:

You play as Link who has to save Zelda, but this game is different,
there is no Zelda, but you need to get off this island that you’ve crash
landed onto. You travel through towns, dungeons, keeps, caves, and
forests collecting weapons and items that will help you throughout the
course of your adventure.

The game has held up extremely well over time. Everything from the
graphics, to the sounds, to the controls, to the story has held up and
remained fun to play in this age of normal mapped, spectral-lit, dynamic
character models, its refreshing to see wonderful gameplay, and a main
character made out of less than 50 pixels. The music, by far, is the
still the most awesome part of the game. From the jumping and busy Tal
Tal Heights, to the full version of Ballad of the Wind Fish, the music
will draw you into the adventure like nothing else.

I highly suggest you check this out:

Here’s a bonus song for you (remixed from this game):
Nintendo – Super Smash Bros. Brawl – Tal Tal Heights
