I decided that back in February that I was going to do something I had never done before. My boy Jesse and I went to the best arcade I have ever been to called Arcade Legacy in Cincinnati and decided I was going to enter a few tournaments (Tom’s sorry ass would get there a lot later.). There were three tournaments I decided to enter out of the possible four.

The first was simply put as the Iron Man fighting game tournament. I was in a group of 6 people and I had to face each of them in each of the following games- Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Breakers Revenge, and last but not least Vampire Savior which is the 1997 version of the Darkstalkers series. To be honest I was completely outmatched by damn near everyone that I had to go up against. Each game you played two out of three out of five rounds and I learned a few things right off the bat.

1: No matter how good I think I am or how decent I may be at a game someone will and can kick my ass no matter what I do.

2: Breakers Revenge is full of broken shit that allows me to do nothing all the while the people I go up against keep coming at me with an onslaught of terror.

3: Apparently I am a lot better at Vampire Savior than I ever would have thought (Felicia FTW!).

Yea shes a cat, whatever she kicks so much ass.

4: That my combo of Cammy, Ryu, and Sagat are hard to beat if in Capcom vs SNK 2 if I just remember how the hell to use sagat as a spam/distance fighter.

5: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure might be up there for the best fighting game I have ever played even though I cannot imagine what the hell the people were on when they made the comic and the two fighting games based off of it.

Regardless of all of that I went 5 out of 25 and did not advance to the next round. It was a huge learning experience and one of the many I had throughout the day. The best part was I started to realize that all these guys were like a community of friends and when they watched each other they wanted to give tips on what they could have done to do better. Even without knowing any of them I was quickly accepted and was involved in a lot of discussions with the overall group of people. Jesse also participated in this tourney but did not do as well…although I cannot recall his record.

Ok time for tourney two of the day and of corse as luck would have, it turned out to be a “Mystery Game” tournament. Essentially I was forced to play some of the worst titles I can ever imagine. You played two out of three rounds…if it was a fighting game and if you lose twice you are out of the tournament.

The first game I played was entitled: Joy Mech Fight. This game was a fighting game made back in 1993 for the famicom. We played it on a top loader and I have to be honest, if you look at this game for a second you will say “Wow this game has to be one of the shittiest games I have ever seen.” Honestly I loved it, they had a lot of diverse fighters for a game that was released on Nintendo. I also just found out that it had a 38 player roster, which if you can your math most games in 1993 had roughly 15 so that is astounding. I won my fight using a character that was named Tiger and did it using his diving kick attack.

To me he is a cross between Sagat from Street Fighter, and Rax from Eternal Champions. Oh in other news the attack is called the eagle kick, and was my weapon of mass destruction.

The next game was DX Hird…which I would love to provide you with a good review or picture but it has been so long the only thing i remember is that it played like Battle Arena Toshiden 3 and was terrible looking. It is so obscure that I spent 10 minutes on google looking up and down for it and I have nothing but one man talking about how bad it is in a forum…I was unaware that a game could suck that bad that no physical evidence exists.

Next up was Masked rider Agigo, which is a game based off of the Japanese television series Kamen Rider. This game was one of the prettiest games that I can remember from the tourney and the actual movement from the characters looked great. This game was not responsive at all and even if you wanted to use one of your strong attacks it would take about 4 seconds to load the damn thing up before you could go and use it. None the less I won this game as well. Once again I cannot get a picture of the game I am referencing so deal with it.

After that came Heaven’s Gate which is a game so bad that wikipedia does not have an existing article about it. I remember it being for the PS1 and kinda reminding me of Virtua Fighter except way way worse. All I know is that I won this game as well but honestly I cannot remember anything about it upon seeing pictures other than what I just told you.

THIS GAME IS BAD! I also realize Jin looks like Hanzo from World Heroes.

The next game was Sailor Moon S, which as you could guess was a Sailor Moon fighting game. The control and response to this game are some of the saddest I have experienced. I mean they could actually be worse but holy god, I really think they just liked to rush fighting titles based on random cartoons in Japan because they know people would buy it. Think about it Sailor Moon was/might still be that popular over there so this makes sense. Once again this game was another win for the Martyr.

This game is a lot worse than it looks.

The only game I played that was not a fighting game was a heated match of Frogs and Flies. You are a frog who jumps in the air and tries to eat the dots they call flies that are on the screen. Two people go at the same time and it starts off as day and after every 30 seconds or so it gets darker and darker until it goes black and a winner is determined. This was the closest game I actually played during the entire Mystery Game match-up. It was also a great game to shout expletives as my frog would jump like a huge pussy or just jump way too hard off his lily pad due to the great controls of the Atari that we played it on. Chalk up another win.

This game is actually more fun because the controls suck so bad. I have never cussed more at a game in a short amount of time then I did at this one.

The final game I would win at was Natsuke Crisis Battle and it was for the Super Famicom. After getting my ass kicked the first round I had the misfortune of picking the female version of Zangief and somehow pulled off some of the biggest bullshit moves once I figured out she was just like him. I do not mean in the spamming lariat sense, but the 360 degree rotation while jumping to throw my opponent into the ground type of character.

Very obscure never heard of game of good god damn reasons.

Finally I was able to play a arcade game for the tourney and it was Karate Champ. This game has one of the least responsive controls I have ever seen in a fighting game. You play until you get two full points or the time runs out. Points are given based on the attack you use and where you inflict the attack. You use two joysticks, one moves you and the other helps attack. Depending on the two directions you move the joysticks, you can do front flips, jump kicks, and other crazy karate shit. Biggest problem with this game is that the hit detection has to be really perfect. If you are off by 1/18th of a second or if you are kinda too close to them the move will not be completed. None the less I had a hell of a fight but still lost by a half a point.

There is not a better feeling than executing the jump kick for the full point. TO THE FACE.

The last game I was able to play for this was the very creatively named FIST. This by far was the worst thing that I played the entire day. I really wish I could get a picture of it just to show you how bad it is. The controls were terrible, the game play was worse. It was on the PS1 but I swear it looked and felt like a blind man made a game using random code that sounded good to him in his mind and he turned it into FIST.

Yep this is all I could find. Thank you Ebay.

After my two losses I had to get ready for the final tournament of the night and I am not sure where I finished exactly I just know that I did really damn good and came pretty close to actually getting to the final. I then had to prepare myself to be entered into the King of Iron Fist Tournament, or at least the sixth edition of Tekken anyway. As fate would have it I had to go up against my buddy Jesse in the first part of a round robin event. Each match was 3 out of 5 rounds and 2 out of three fights. The first match I decided to use Bruce and after Jesse dominated the shit out of me I looked him in the eyes told him I was sorry and picked Eddy Gordo. I do feel bad that I had to use one of the cheapest characters against a guy that never really plays Tekken too much but I needed to get that first (and only win of the day) so I chose him and beat Jesse’s ass. I decided that after the fight Jesse and I had that I had to pick a character I was good with that was not someone people knew how to defend well. I thought about Eddy again, but he is a beginner character so I knew I stood no chance with him…after several minutes of debate I said “Fuck It” and I picked Jack 6. Jack is slow as all hell but is very powerful and has great reach and the ability to put the opponent into the air to juggle…slight problem is that I am not good enough with him to know how to consistently keep the person in the air. Overall I faced about 10 different people and lost to all of them. Most of my matches were very close and I met a few people that will be at the Power Up event at the end of the month that I plan on attending.

While playing against all these great players I was told a few different things from some of the participants.

1: The fact that I chose Jack when almost no one really is comfortable with him, threw most of my enemies off because they did not know what to expect.

2: I am very good at blocking and anticipating low attacks which is key to keeping a match as close as it can be given most juggle attacks start from a low to high position.

3: That for it being my first tournament that apparently I was skilled a lot higher than anyone thought I would have been when I told people it was my first tournament.

4: That the word Perfect, is described as “The seven golden letters” and you better not let that shit happen to you.

Like I said before this was one of the best things I had ever done and I learned a lot from it. Met a lot of awesome people who seem to want me to go back, and I earned the respect of people I have never met because I had the balls to pick a character that no one plays with while trying to compete with people much better than my sorry ass. If you ever have the chance to go to Arcade Legacy you need to. It is 10 bucks to play all night, and all the games are free and set up so all you have to do is hit the start button to enjoy some classics such as Killer Instinct, MVC2, Point Blank and many others.

Yes that is a rabbit wearing a shirt while winking, somehow this is the worst part about this game.

Once again after an extended break I am back to tell you about one of the most amazing games that has ever graced any system in the history of video games. The game for today is Tecmo Super Bowl, and if you have never played it then what in the fuck is your problem? If you are a fan of football games then you will love this one, unless you are the kind of “bro” that gets lost in the menial Madden-oply rehashes year after year. This game is the sequel to the original Tecmo Bowl and was released back in 1991. Before Tecmo was dominating the “Boob Physics” with Dead Or Alive they had the Ninja Gaiden series and then this game. This game is the best sports game ever created, and that my friends is a Martyr definitive statement.

Why does this game have everything to offer you are probably asking yourself. Let’s start with the fact that it is the simplest football game to play. In Madden you can do spin moves and jukes and jump for overthrown passes just to save your ass…in TSB you will button mash to break tackles…and fuck spinning unless your going to make your player run a complete circle around the defense on the field, even jumping for passes happens only if your receiver does not suck and actually cares to try to make sure that Rod Woodson is not going to pick it off and run it back for a TD which happens many times when you play the Steelers. When doing a pass, one button cycles through receivers and the other throws very simple and very effective. The game is as simple as this you have 8 plays on offence to choose from, 4 running and 4 passing which you select by using either A or B and pressing a certain direction at the same time. It is so simple yet it is beautiful at the same time, imagine if any football game today had only 8 plays people would constantly bitch, but not back in 1991 all you had to do was make the people happy by giving them the opportunity to beat the living hell out of each other using their favorite teams and players from back when this game came out.

The rosters are honestly unforgettable. You have the likes of QB Eagles (Randle Cunningham), QB Bills (Jim Kelly), Dan Marino, Bruce Smith, Jerry Rice, Christian “The Nigerian Nightmare” Okoye, Thurmond Thomas, Berry Sanders, Warren Moon, Sterling Sharpe, Rod Woodson, and alot of others….but there is only one person you will need to remember because he kicks so much ass none of the others matter. Bo “Get the Fuck Out of My Way” Jackson. Bo in case you have no idea, was a Running Back who was cut down in his prime due to those god forsaken Bengals. He might be the best athlete that baseball and football had ever seen, and thanks to a hip injury alot of people were left wondering what could have been, but with the help of this game you can see that he is nothing short of a bulldozer with legs. In this game they give you different ratings such as running power, and speed and ball control and he is in the top three of all categories that actually matter. You can use him to either run past or just run over the opposing pussies that will try to tackle the man. Hell if you get lucky and he is in “excellent” condition he is damn near maxed out in all categories which makes him even more of a force to be wreckened with. Honestly the Raiders are not that great but with him you cant go wrong, even if he can only run the ball up the middle or to the right as long as you zig-zag and tap those buttons fast to destroy the defense you will win each time. If you don’t believe me on the power of Bo Jackson, look his name up in youtube for some definitive proof.

So I exaggerated a little….Bo is still better than getting sex on the first date.

If you have the chance you might as well pick the bills and play the Patriots because they are so awful that they make the mighty weenies of Mutant League Hockey look good. Plus you will have the combo of QB Bills and Thomas which is pretty much unbeatable kinda like Rice and Montana for the 49ers. The control of this game is spot on but a question remains is the game realistic? Not even close. That is the best part about this game. One game you can have a running back with over 400 yards rushing, a quarterback who will throw the ball from the 1 yard line all the way to the end zone for a 99 yard TD pass, and then have 15 sacks with a defensive lineman, that is no lie. You can do whatever you want and completely destroy the other team.

Realism just took a swift kick to the balls….Super Champions….keep wishing Detroit.

The cutscenes in this game are actually quite good given the time when this was released. They have them for anything important that happens, such as touchdowns, completed passes, blocked kicks, kickoffs, first downs, halftime show, and even when a player gets injured. Another pro to this game is the fact that penalties do not exist in any way shape or form, no holding, no roughing the passer, no clipping, none of the bullshit that you get upset about when your in the 4th quarter driving and get the first down only to have it taken back because your left guard was being a dick-face. This is arcade style football at its finest and thats me basically telling you that NFL Blitz, has nothing on this game. This game is so popular that there are leagues over the Internet that you can join and put your best effort up against, and if your lucky you might get to play in a tournament in New York City which they do every so often. I have almost got into fist fights while playing this game due to how much the momentum can change at any given time. This is easily one of the top ten games on the NES and if anyone says any different they are dead wrong. If you have not played this yet your ass better do so as soon as possible. To top that off I offer the cheerleading sluts of halftime.

Half Time…FUCK YEA!

tsbfaq.txt

Check that shit out to understand the rating system and teams better.

I just recently completed Mega Man 4 for the NES, and I have to say… by far… One of the lower rungs in the series. Don’t get me wrong… I love me some Mega Man, especially on the NES, but most of the stages were one-trick ponies. Unlike the level design in Mega Man 2, or especially 3, the stages in 4 were average… even in difficulty. Capcom isn’t known for making pussy games, which is why I’m disappointed in this one… While not the easiest game, not by far, it isn’t quite up to that “Blue Bomber” status we all know and hate. Each stage has one or two difficult parts, but after that, it’s easy riding.

What makes up for this lack of creativity in the level design is the introduction of a staple Mega Man ability: The Charge Shot. The birth of the charge shot meant the end of blistered thumbs for Mega Man gamers. No longer did you need to jam the B button or grab your NES Advantage, you could just charge the shot, and be ready, next time something crossed your path.

While Mega Man 4 did some great things for the series, I still feel that 3 was the peak. If one thing is consistent throughout the franchise: It’s the music. Still amazingly enjoyable, even after all these years. Enough of me blabbing… get to playing!

Some NES arcade ports are utter shit, lets not kid ourselves, N.A.R.C. was a joke. Back in the day, taking a game that was built for arcades and throwing the code at much simpler tech was not an easy or pretty task. Not that I’m saying arcades were amazingly top of the line back then. If you go download the trial Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game from the Xbox Live Arcade, there isn’t much eye-candy, that’s for sure. But that’s the exact reason why gameplay was the focus. Normal mapped character models were just a twinkles in dev’s eyes back then.

I present: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game. The arcade to NES translation is amazing. The dev’s got rid of the small amount of voice clips that were in the arcade version, toned down the graphics a bit, and shortened some of the levels. But the thing they maintained in entirety is the amazing brawler gameplay. Going through the game with my little brother is one of my favorite memories of the NES days. Check this one out, remember the quarter-munching days.

The President has been kidnapped by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president? That is the premise of Bad Dudes. A recreation of the arcade game by the same name, Bad Dudes is a bad game. They try to play off the success of classics like Double Dragon, but the game comes off as shallow and uninteresting as the story.

Sloppy control, an awkwardly told story, unimaginative characters, and a ton of shittiness thrown in for good measure make a pretty dull game. While lines like “Kidnapped by Ninjas” have become gaming memes over the years, its not because the game was good. And it sure as hell doesn’t match up to “RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!”.

I know this isn’t technically a 72PC game, but I figure it’s ok since a majority of the characters in Brawl were birthed by the womb of the old school… so here goes. I recall playing the original Super Smash Bros. It was a style of game that had, until that point, gone untapped. Granted, nobody else would be able to do it, really. Seeing as it is an idea that requires a plethora of recognizable characters. The idea is, as Zero Punctuation put it, masturbatory of it’s own characters. Recycled and recycled again. But Nintendo can do that because they have the attendance list to do it. Back to the past, I became a Smash addict. Years later, Melee came about and I was Gamecubeless. Thus, I kinda fell behind in the Smash game for some time. Roughly a year and a half (possibly a whole two years) before Brawl came out, I had to learn to play Melee quickly and effectively. I forced myself to play with several people who were way better than me and speed up the remembering process. After only a 2 month period I was back in full swing. Keep it mind it had been MANY years since I had even played the first one. It came down to me getting sick of having my ass handed to me on a platter and hit in the face with it. I had honed my skills with Link (the most comfortable transition into Melee) and eventually switched to Sheik (the Red Death). Knowing I had to get geared for Brawl, I knew getting used to the faster physics of Melee was the only way to aid me in my quest. However, the change in physics from Melee to Brawl was unexpected at first. Everybody had become very floaty (even Luigi became floatier) and my newly learned skill, the wave/land-dash, was no longer accessible. I had prior knowledge of this, but I didn’t really calculate it until I had to play without it. It wasn’t really a problem, but you have to understand the amount of time I spent to learn these skills. Once I had I was able to zip around and give people a good crack in the mouth (care of Sheik’s forearm) several times before I let them touch the ground. But, despite the time spent, I’m glad the wave-dash is gone. It was, by all means, a glitch that caused the user to become a god of destruction on screen. It was a devastatingly unfair means of pure punishment. Now that it’s gone, the playing field has been leveled and it’s REALLY time to have some fun. Let’s get to the icing on the fist-shaped cake. “Subspace Emissary” was a creative way to get used to the tricks of the trade. A lot of people complained about it, saying it was “too lenghty” and a waste of time since you can unlock characters playing regular Brawls. Which is true to a degree, but I liked “Subspace” if only because it strayed from the known formula of Smash. Though it did seem to go on forever, it set the story and I like me some story. Brawl includes the usual additional gameplay (i.e. Events, Stadium, Training, etc.), but also has some new things to add to the mix. Demos of classic Nintendo games, a list of games from systems ranging from Game & Watch to the Wii. And, of course, there is the Stage Builder. I won’t even go into why that is so much fun because it should be blatant to even the most useless puddle of sap. You can take screen shots, watch replays and pick up stickers… because you’re six! I haven’t had the chance to play online just yet, but that will be remedied soon. But from what I hear it’s fun as long as it isn’t an FFA match. At that point it supposedly lags like a liquored up grandma rolling a joint. Now I’ll list my favorite new characters and why they’re sweet

Ike: The Hands-Down Badass of Brawl. From the Fire Emblem games, he wields a big, golden sword that gives new meaning to “rape.” Although the weight of the sword can slow him down, if you’re on your heels he can deal some MASSIVE damage. He’s pretty much all strenght with enough stealth to make him a huge problem on the battlefield.

Wario: No surprise, Wario’s my boy. Actually Waluigi’s my boy, but he’s only an assist trophy in this game (which, if you didn’t know, means he can be summoned to assist whoever picks it up). I was expecting Wario’s fighting style to be similar to the Mario Bros., but since he is technically the “WarioWare” version he’s very cartoony. He leaps way better than you think someone as stocky as he is would be able to. He can pull a motorcycle out of his pocket, which can be the difference between life and death… and it’s easy to be an asshole with it. You can bite people and fart (which can hurt both player and pride), sending them to Deathville.

R.O.B.: I don’t really play as R.O.B. a whole lot, but he’s worth noting because he looks so god damn clunky and stupid. It’s this appearance that makes R.O.B. work, because you don’t see barrage of mechanics that will eat your soul until it’s too late. With the right player behind the sticks, R.O.B. can pull some surprises out of his metal ass.

Lucas: I wasn’t sure about Lucas when I unlocked him, that was only because I was a fool. His PK Thunder can hit an opponent several times if executed properly. He adds a new flare to Ness’ fighting style (by the way I’m told by cohort, Prancog, that Ness never learned PK Thunder or PK Fire in the Earthbound games from which he originated… Just thought I’d throw that out there) that counters Ness’ style pretty well.

Sonic: Nuff said.

Also, I forgot to mention mini game after you complete All-Star or Classic mode. You shoot pictures of characters, trophies, pokemon, etc. to get coins. It’s fun for awhile, but it’s like candy and it can get old quickly. You can use the coins to play a game (which I don’t feel like taking the time to explain, I’ll just say it’s much more entertaining than the lottery from Melee) and achieve trophies and stickers. It’s really easy to kill an hour doing this because you tend to phase everything else out.

Overall, Brawl is a very fun game that you can play for hours without getting bored. Everything that you thought “this could be better” in Melee has been made better. It took a LONG time to get this game out but I consider it completely worth the wait. Because unlike a lot of games today, this game fulfilled it’s promises. Whether or not the gameplay is great online you have to realize that Nintendo has been working the innovation front, which they always have for quite some time, and that they’ll get with it on the online front sooner or later (hopefully sooner). I play this game nearly every day and haven’t bought other games because I know this will take up all my time (other than Boom Blox when that comes out… boner).

Sweet lord. This game is a prime example of why childhoods have been destroyed by video games. I used to own this game when I was a young lad, and I used to play the Hell out of it everysingle day. Back then I was the true definition of what you would call a “noob” so making it to level 3 seldom happened. I today am reviewing this game because thanks to emulation I have once again found out why I have a love/hate relationship with this game. If you have never played this game before, let me explain the premise. You play as one of three toads names Pimple, Rash, and Zitz. Wow Rare really thought outside of the box when they picked those three names by the way. You have to fight a woman known as “Black Queen” she is a very evil woman who happens to have the worlds biggest cleavage for a video game character at that time.

Your enemies consist of pigs, crows, robots, fire, pitfalls, spikes, snakes, and the list goes on and on. When you start up the game you realize this is not your run of the mill normal “beat the shit” out of everything type of video game. In level one it’s simple enough to get through fairly easily other than the boss fight which can be troublesome as hell as it is played from a first person view of the boss robot you have to fight. Level two is more difficult as you must proceed down a huge tower of some sort while you are tethered to the top of the stage. There are so many enemies it is ridiculous, first off the crows want you dead. Plain and simple, they will do anything to destroy you as you are going down the tower. Then you have electricity that if it touches you will cause you to fall from your tether completely and then your dead. If you can get past that well then it wont be long before you get more pissed off at a game then ever before. Level three is a BITCH. You have to fight enemies and then you have to ride a hover-bike to different platforms, the only problem is that most of the platforms you jump on you just fall off as if you somehow missed it completely. I mean I could understand if you didn’t get enough speed or something to that effect but honestly when you are jumping to the platform going the same speed as the one before it and you just fall through the damn thing, that is just infuriating. I am an avid old school gamer and I tried my best during last year to beat that level for a week straight and I finally just gave up.

Thanks to a new emulation tool using a Sega Dreamcast, I was able to basically just say screw it and move on to level 7 with the help of a Game Genie. Level 7 has you riding a hover-bike again but without the random platforms, you just have to go through it while not getting hit by electricity but the problem is you honestly get .5 seconds to make your next move, it is simply ridiculous. Rare honestly must have sat in the development room and thought “How can we make this game impossible for the 5 year olds who will own this game?” “Oh I have an idea, why don’t we have ridiculous stages where you fall through the level, and others where the enemies just gang-rape you, until you our out of lives and continues” I am assuming that is exactly what was said because this game just bends you over and lets you have it. There are twelve levels while I shall only be talking about two more to save time and anguish for myself. Level 8 is just unreal. I spent 45 minutes with unlimited livers trying to conquer what might be the hardest level in the entire game. In Battletoads you get three lives, and can get up to a total of 5 lives, the problem with this is that if I would have had 5 lives at level 8 within the first 2 minutes I would have lost them all. This level is tedious as all Hell. You have to go up platform after platform, facing robots that shoot electricity in which two hits is instant death. On top of that once you can somehow navagiate for the first like 30 platforms you then have to deal with toxic gas which will result in instant death. I mean that is honestly like me saying “OK you have to fight Mike Tyson in the ring right now, oh and by the way you have to have one arm tied behind your back” You might as well not even attempt it because your ass will get handed to you over and over again. The farther you go up the platforms the harder the level gets, they add fans to blow you off the platforms or to suck you in and run you through the blades which big suprize, instantly kills you. Oh did I mention that you only have two checkpoints in the whole level? I guess I should have mentioned the fact that the first 30 minutes of that level I spent not even making the first checkpoint so I had to start the entire things all over again. I honestly don’t think I cussed more in my life then I did at this game at that stage, it is the hardest thing that I have ever completed so far. Ok, the final stage I want to discuss is level 12. You have to climb a tower with platforms, who the hell would have thought huh? None the less the stage is hard but isn’t as hateful as the others, the reason I enjoy it the most is probably because the tower is rendered to where when you run right or left it actually makes the tower move so basically it has a 3-D effect, which isn’t bad for a game made all the way back in 1991. The biggest problem was I played it for 30 minutes and didn’t get to a checkpoint so each time I died I had to do the whole tower over again. I pretty much said to Hell with it, I cannot do anything good in Battletoads.

I know I just ripped this games ass apart, but let me explain. If Rare didn’t make this game so damn hard I would actually play it a lot more often. The action is awesome, and the animation is very good given the status of games back in 1991. The soundtrack is also amazing, especially when you pause the game, it has such an awesome beat to it, when I hear it I always think back to when I used to listen to it constantly because of how awesome I thought it was way back then. The biggest thing is the violence. Holy shit is there violence. I mean you beat up a bunch of rats and then for your “final hit” your foot will turn into a huge ass boot, or you will grow horns and turn into a ram, or your fist will have brass knuckles on it or some other random stuff like that. The fact that you actually get to see the characters die is also awesome. I don’t know another game back then that lets you see a toad get sucked into a fan and have his legs sticking out of the fan when the blades are running. The toxic gas death animation is also sweet, you see the toad gasp for air, pass-out, gasp again, and then die. This game was straight to the point when it came to what it wanted to be, it wanted to be a game that only a few people who have the balls to play it for days upon end could complete. Hell it was a two player game but you couldn’t finish the game with two players because of a glitch on level 11, the second player cannot move. So you must beat the shit out of him until he dies because this game actually allowed players to kill one another. On top of that there is no password or save feature, so unless you had what might be the best skills known to man, you are not going to beat this game. Emulation has made this game a lot easier, but you still have to be nothing short of a elite NES player to get through some of these levels. I hate this game so much, but at the same time this is one of my top ten NES titles, probably because of the nostalgic value this game has. If you haven’t play it then you have to, you have to play this game just to understand what the Hell I am talking about. If you have played it before, then pick up this rom, as much as it may hurt to play it, you know it will bring back some old memories.

The Lolo games were released on the NES late in its lifetime, although the games enjoyed moderate success. You either play as Lolo or Lala, and make your way through the stages. Some enemies shoot fire that you can avoid, others are instant death. Lolo is just a classic game that’s worth playing for a couple hours.

Anyway… enjoy the rom, and I’ll try to find a more regular posting schedule over the Christmas week! Have fun!

In Bubble Bobble, you spend your time trapping the various enemies in bubbles, then popping them. This game is simple enough to keep casual players entertained, yet long enough to keep gamers coming back to finish that one level they never got to. The co-op play is really the most enjoyable part of this game, as bosses are quite hard to defeat alone.
